Connecting Research, Education and Policy: TRACE National Conference at the University of Bucharest

On 23 October 2026, the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest, organised the National Conference of the Erasmus+ project “Tracing Climate Change (TRACE)”.

The event brought together more than 45 participants from universities, educational institutions, public authorities, public agencies and non-governmental organisations, providing an opportunity to discuss climate change education, environmental vulnerability and the contribution of geomorphological research to understanding ongoing environmental changes.

Presenting the TRACE Project Results

The conference presented the project’s main achievements, highlighting research conducted in deltaic, coastal and mountain environments across Romania, Greece and France. Participants explored how climate change, sea-level fluctuations, tectonic processes and permafrost degradation influence landscape evolution and environmental vulnerability.

Among the project’s key results were the development of open-access educational resources on climate change and geomorphology, lecture notes and scientific presentations covering major geomorphological environments, and video lessons and multimedia content supporting innovative teaching approaches.

The conference also highlighted interactive maps and virtual field trips based on project field investigations, a series of international online workshops involving students from partner universities, and a collection of successful stories and learning experiences documenting the project’s educational impact.

Connecting Research, Education and Policy

A round-table discussion encouraged exchanges between academics, educators, institutional representatives and other stakeholders, focusing on how TRACE resources can contribute to climate education, research activities and evidence-based environmental and educational policies.

The conference confirmed the value of collaboration between universities, public institutions and civil society organisations in addressing climate-related challenges and promoting informed decision-making through education and research.

The University of Bucharest TRACE team would like to thank all speakers, participants and partner organisations for their valuable contributions and engagement throughout the conference.
